Individual Differences in Attractiveness

Faculty:

David M. Buss, PhD

Contact:

Carin Perilloux perilloux@mail.utexas.edu

Description:

We are studying how individual differences in attractiveness are related to differences in people’s experiences in social and romantic situations. This study includes two parts: the first part involves collecting individual difference information and measurements/photos from participants; the second will consist of obtaining third-party ratings of the photos collected in the first part.

Qualifications:

Students who can devote multiple terms to our lab (either as 357 or volunteer) will be considered first. We are especially looking for students who show interest in evolutionary psychology and human mating. We need someone who will be reliable, who will show up on time, and who will follow directions. We need someone who is capable of describing the experiment to participants and walking them through the steps.

Duties:

The student’s duties will include greeting study participants, conducting the actual experiment, and working with the researchers in planning follow-up studies. The student may also be asked to help out by monitoring the study’s related email or credit, finding relevant journal articles, entering data, organizing data, or other research-related tasks.
