Partially fulfills Area I requirement for psychology Description: In this course students will be taught how to design, evaluate, and write up experiments. We will conduct original research, primarily (but not exclusively) on the psychology of reading. The first experiment will be designed by the entire class; three subsequent experiments will be designed and carried out by groups of four students. Students are expected to read the text during the first month of classes; there will be an exam over the book. Each student will be expected to write up each experiment independently. Texts: Stanovich, K. How to think straight about psychology. 1997 Grading and Requirements: To be announced. Prerequisites: Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Psychology 418 or an equivalent statistics course with a grade of C or better, upper division standing, a GPA of 3.0 in Psychology courses taken at the University, and a major in psychology.
