Description: Introduction to experimental design and basic statistics used in psychological research. Weekly two-hour lab gives students hands-on experience with data collection and analysis, as well as experience writing research reports. Texts: Required: Ray, W. Methods toward a science of behavior and experience. (5th ed.) 1997 Spatz, C. Basic statistics: Tales of distributions. (6th ed.) 1997 Optional: Spatz, C. Study guide for basic statistics: Tales of distributions. (5th ed.) 1993. Grading and Requirements: Paper 1: 10 pp., 20% of grade. Paper 2: 10 pp., 20%. Exams: 4 - 60%. Prerequisites: Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Mathematics 302 or higher-level mathematics course with a C or better, and a major in psychology.
