Required of students in the Psychology Honors program
Department of Psychology Honors Program is designed to give outstanding students who plan a career in psychology an intensive exposure to research in psychology. Program consists of three formal courses: PSY 359H (Honors Research I), PSY 379H (Honors Research II), and PSY 158H (Honors Seminar). PSY 359H is seminar course which provides opportunity for discussion of various areas of psychology and issues related to research. Explore areas of interest and prepare to undertake independent work in area by reviewing previous research and writing an integrative review paper. Applications for the Department of Psychology Honors Program are available in the Undergraduate Office, MEZ 206. Texts: No textbooks. Grading and Requirements: Paper 1: 3 pp., preliminary sketch of proposed research. Paper 2: 20 pp.; draft #1 of prospectus: literature review, research plan, detailed Method section, etc. Paper 3: draft #2. Paper 4: 30 pp., draft #3, Final Paper, including revised Introduction and elaborated Methods section. Both the quality of the Final Paper and the proposed thesis are considered in grading = 100% of grade. Prerequisites: Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Psychology 418 or equivalent statistics course with a grade of C or better, Psychology 458, six semester hours of upper division psychology, a 3.5 GPA in all psychology courses taken at the University, a UT GPA of 3.0, and consent of the Honors Advisor.
