Psychology of Ethnic Minority Children and Adolescents W 4:00-7:00 BEN 422 Ramirez
Meets with MAS 374 Description: This class will be a research seminar. The focus of the course will be on psychological research done with ethnic minority children and adolescents. The emphasis will be on culture, cognition, ethnic identity, delinquency, family support/stressors, racism, and teenage pregnancy. Issues in bilingual/multicultural education and community programs for primary prevention will be presented. The theoretical orientation of the course lies with the cultural and cognitive flex model of multicultural personality development (Ramirez & Castaneda, 1974; Ramirez 1994). Texts: Monteiro, K.P. Grading and Requirements: Class Participation: 10% 2 Class Presentations: 20% Term Paper Rough Draft 15% Final Draft 35% Degree of Improvement 20% Prerequisites: Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Psychology 418 or an equivalent statistics course with a grade of C or better, upper division standing, and six semester hours of upper division psychology.
