Undergraduate Research Project

Faculty: Dev Singh, Ph.D.
Contact: Dev Singh
Email: singh@psy.utexas.edu
Description:

The common consensus is that what is beautiful is shaped by mass media and that attractiveness has no utility or biologically relevant information. Accumulating research on various components of body morphology such as symmetry and body shape suggest that beauty is not arbitrary amd is an indicator of health and genetic quality. This project will examine the nature of body weight dissatisfaction in females and drive for thinness within an evolutionary context.

Qualifications: Must have minimum of 2-3 two-hour blocks of time every week; GPA minimum of 3.2. Preference for those students who can work for more than 1 semester. Background in evolutionary psychology helpful but not necessary.

Duties:

Weekly meetings to discuss current research. Help run the studies, data entry and analysis, and library research. Other duties as required.
