Description:

Topics: sensory v. cognitive self; self in animals and in humans; body awareness and attitudes; varieties of self-consciousness; shyness, shame, and audience anxiety; self-presentation, exhibitionism, egocentricity; self-help and independence; empathy and altruism; self-esteem and identity.

Grading and Requirements:

Exams: Essay exams - 2, take-home.
Term paper: 16 pp.
Critique of all papers by both instructor and teaching assistant.
100% of the student's grade will be determined by student's written expression.

Prerequisites:

Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Psychology 418 or an equivalent statistics course with a grade of C or better, upper division standing, and six semester hours of upper division psychology.
