PSY 357 Self-fulfilling prophecies in the classroom: How teacher’s expectations effect student achievement

Description:
Can you think of a time when you had a really good or really bad teacher? How did it impact your learning experience and motivation? This research study looks at the relationship between expectations that teachers have of their students and student achievement. Specifically, it investigates whether teachers who have high or low expectations can create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Also, it looks at whether some students are more sensitive to teacher expectations than others. If you are interested in these topics you will enjoy this project!
Qualifications:
Students should be interested in the topic and in conducting psychological research. Preferably students have taken social psychology, are motivated, responsible, and enthusiastic.
Duties:
The research assistant will help with all aspects of the study including planning, reading relevant articles, and analyzing data. You will learn how to run some statistical analyses. You will be working closely with graduate students and other 357 students.
