Position Description, Senior Research Associate

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) is a research and education center based at the University of Maryland, College Park, and involving faculty, researchers, and students from more than 40 institutions around the world. With grant funding and contracts from a range of sources, including but not limited to the Science and Technology Directorate of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, START supports the conduct of original research that applies the theories and methods of social science to the study of the human causes and consequences of terrorism and works to transition findings from this research to a broad community of scholars, students, homeland security professionals, and interested members of the public.

START is currently seeking to hire a Senior Research Associate with specialization in political instability to work with a partner institution in Washington, DC. This is a non-tenure track faculty position, with a one-year contract, renewable through June 2016. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between START and the partner institution and will work most days at the partner's site in Washington, DC, to assist in the construction of systems for measuring and tracking political instability and providing qualitative and/or quantitative research support on sub-national, national, and international political trends.

Minimum Qualifications for Position:
· At least seven years of research experience;
· Training and/or experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods;
· Substantive knowledge of the theory and measurement of political instability.

Preferred Qualifications for Position:
· Ph.D. in a social-science discipline related to the study of political instability;
· Substantive knowledge of the political situation in one or more countries in Africa, the Middle East, and/or Asia;
· Substantive knowledge in one or more subject areas related to political instability (such as ethnic conflict, civil war, terrorism, genocide, international crisis, and/or election-related violence);
· Experience in the creation, building and maintenance of datasets;
· Experience in open-source data collection.


The rank for this position is open and the salary will be commensurate with the successful applicant's level of experience, starting at $85,000. PROGRAM DIRECTOR (ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR): We are seeking an innovative and proven academic leader for this APA-accredited program. The Ph.D. program follows a scholar-practitioner training model and is housed within Alliant International University, which also endorses professional practice, competency based training models. This is a full-time position with a summer appointment, with one-half FTE spent in the teaching and mentoring of students and one-half FTE devoted to program administration. POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: SOCIAL COGNITION, UNIVERSITY OF PARIS, FRANCE

The Laboratory of Psychology of Social and Environmental threats at the University Paris Descartes, France, invites applications for an Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR)-funded postdoctoral fellow position, starting on the 1st of September 2012, or as early as possible after that date. The position consists of a 10-months fellowship. The fellow will be engaged in an ongoing project on affective stimuli and information processing (chief investigator: François Ric, University of Bordeaux). This research program aims at examining the consequences of unconscious affective cues on the processing of social information. In order to explore this question more thoroughly, we are developing a time course model of the processing consequences of affective cues on an experiential (i.e., affective feeling) as well as on a behavioral (i.e., approach / avoidance) level. These hypotheses will be addressed in experimental research that includes recording of EMG responses to affective stimuli.

The post holder's primary tasks will be to coordinate and carry on empirical studies, analyze data, and preparation of research reports.

The successful applicant should hold a Ph.D. in social or cognitive psychology (or in related science domains such as neuroscience) obtained recently or be very close to completing. Applicants should have (the willingness to acquire) some background in the use of facial EMG techniques and a good theoretical background in experimental social psychology. Moreover, good skills in data analysis are required for the position. The ability to speak French is helpful but not necessary.

Child and adolescent junior chair position

Tier II Canada Research Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health

The Department of Psychology, in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry and Hotchkiss Brain Institute, at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track position and Tier II Canada Research Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health. Child and adolescent mental health has been identified as a priority focus for the university. We are seeking individuals with strong research records appropriate to a research-oriented doctoral program and who have strong commitments to teaching and research supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

The successful applicant will be expected to establish a successful and externally funded program of research in child and youth mental health. Excellent candidates with active research programs in any area of child and youth mental health will be considered. The position involves teaching, research, and supervision of graduate students. Postdoctoral positions at University of Queensland, Australia

Three exceptional Postdoctoral Research Fellows are sought to work as part of a dynamic team examining processes of identity change as they relate to issues of leadership and health.

The School of Psychology, University of Queensland is seeking applications for highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellows to work on an ARC-funded project entitled "Responding to the challenges of identity change: An Advanced Social Identity Approach to issues of leadership, health and well-being". The School is internationally recognised for research strengths across the breadth of psychology, and supports thriving and dynamic research groups in Social and Organizational Psychology.

The appointees will be part of a team of researchers working on a project that supports the Australian Research Council's award of an Australian Laureate Fellowship to Professor Alex Haslam. The project will examine processes of identity change as they pertain to issues of leadership and health, and will seek to extend recent theoretical and practical insights that have been gained by exploring these topics through the lens of social identity and self- categorization theories. It is expected that at least one position will involve working on issues of leadership and that at least one will involve working on issues of health and well-being. The start date for the positions is August 2012 and they are available for 3 years (with opportunities a for 12-month extension, where warranted).

These positions would suit applicants with a background in social and/ or organizational psychology who have a demonstrated interest in using social identity theorizing to explore issues of leadership, health and well-being. Applicants must have completed a PhD relevant to the proposed research.

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range A$55,931 - A$75,867 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $65,440 - $88,765 p.a.). Appointees with a PhD will commence at Step 6 of the scale (A $70,676 plus 17% employer superannuation = A$82,691; approx €66,541, £55,411, US$86,429)).

Opportunity to Participate in an Innovative Course Transformation Initiative

Higher education leaders from nine Texas higher education institutions and system offices and the Carnegie Mellon University Open Learning Initiative (OLI) are seeking participants for a unique collaborative research initiative with the interrelated aims of 1) improving educational outcomes for students and 2) providing faculty with advanced technology-based course materials and real-time student learning data to help inform their teaching strategies.

This project includes the development of a new web-based learning environment to enhance teaching and learning for a transfer level introductory Psychology course.  Compensation is available based on experience, project role, and time commitment. Clinical position
University of Montana

Assistant Professor – Clinical Psychology

The Department of Psychology at The University of Montana-Missoula invites applications for a full time tenure track position at the assistant professor level, in Clinical Psychology, to begin August 2012.   We are looking for a clinical psychologist with primary clinical interests in psychological assessment.  Candidates who have completed the specialization in clinical neuropsychology are strongly preferred.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or ABD) in their area of specialization, evidence of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience, potential to establish and maintain a program of research, and evidence of excellence in teaching. In addition to specific duties listed below, faculty members are expected to mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects. The specific areas of research specialization for both positions are open but research interests that complement the current specialty areas in the department are desirable.   Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in assessment, psychotherapy interventions, ethics and other clinical courses as well as supervising assessment and ongoing clinical cases in an outpatient setting. Candidates must have graduated from an APA accredited program and must be license eligible in Montana.

The department consists of 23 full-time faculty members, offers the B.A. degree in psychology, specialist level training (M.A./Ed.S.) in school psychology, and the Ph.D. degree in school psychology, clinical psychology (APA accredited), developmental psychology and animal behavior. New faculty members are provided research support including lab space and reasonable teaching responsibilities. Salary is competitive in the region.
