The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin is a nationally prominent department of psychology. Members of its faculty have made important research and theoretical contributions to the field of psychology. They have also been active in professional organizations and have served as editors of journals and have written major textbooks. The Department will move into a new building, the Seay Building, in the summer of 2002. This building will accommodate the research needs of the faculty and students and will allow us to provide all graduate students with offices in their supervisor’s research facility.

Austin, the capital of Texas, is a very livable city with an ethnically diverse population of around 700,000 in a metropolitan area of over 1,000,000. It is a physically attractive city with trees, hills, a river, and nearby lakes. It provides opportunities for a variety of recreational activities and cultural and entertainment events. The climate is temperate. Winter is brief, and below freezing temperatures are rare. Spring and fall are long and enjoyable. Summer temperatures hover in the mid-90s; air-conditioning in almost all buildings, homes, and apartments is a mitigating influence.
