Under
the direction of Dr. Kim Fromme, the SAHARA Lab focuses on the study
of alcohol use and other risk-taking behaviors (e.g. risky sex,
aggression/violence, illicit drug use) among college students and
other young adults. Some of our previous research has evaluated
the effects of alcohol on cognition, the association between alcohol
and risky sexual behavior, and the success of prevention programs
in reducing alcohol use.
Our
laboratory includes a suite of 6 interview, office, and meeting rooms,
a simulated bar laboratory, observation room, and computerized testing
room located in the psychology building, completed in June 2002.
Comprising approximately 1,300 square feet, the laboratory facilities
are fully equipped for conducting survey, interview, and experimental
research. The laboratory facilities also include private telephone
lines, sound proofed rooms, and a large workspace for graduate and
undergraduate research assistants. The bar laboratory is designed
to simulate an actual barroom facility in all respects, including
dim lighting, music, neon beer signs, and a host of alcohol-related
stimuli. |
