Research Interests: 1) The relation between multimodal indices of reinforcement and drinking motives (biological, cognitive, behavioral, and self-report drinking motives) and the developmental trajectories from “casual” to problematic drinking (e.g., abuse, dependence, and alcohol-related problems). 2) The etiological and maintenance implications of emotional dysregulation and PTSD in inpatient substance abusers with the goal of developing and testing new treatment strategies for drug and alcohol dependence.

Research Interests: Mechanisms involved in substance use (e.g., peer influence, coping), risky sexual behavior (e.g., perceived social norms), and intimate partner violence (e.g., normative influence, aggression expectancies, coping responses) among young adults. Additional interests include coping responses to traumatic experiences and mechanisms involved in the development of posttraumatic stress disorder.
