PSY 357 Stereotype Threat and Testosterone in Gay and Straight Men

Undergraduate Research Project

Description:

We are looking to see if testosterone and stereotype threat interact to cause performance differences in straight and gay men in a motor/athletic task (Nerf basketball). We will measure the testosterone of straight and gay men and have them compete with each other at Nerf basketball. We suspect that high testosterone gay m en will perform poorly against straight men, and high testosterone straight men will perform extremely well relative to gay men. This project is part of a larger research program understanding how testosterone interacts with status to influence behavior.

Qualifications:

You must be a straight female or gay/bisexual female who is not obviously gay (not to be discriminatory, but it’s for the experiment design.) You should be conscientious, organized, and pay strong attention to detail. Preferably, you should have a GPA over 3.5 (but I will make exceptions once you email me and come talk to me) in psychology and understand experimental design.

Duties:

Your primary responsibility will be running the study, but you may also be involved in recruiting subjects for the study, and analyzing data for the project.
