Description:

The course contains a survey of research and theory on infant development including prenatal development, capacities of newborn, perceptual and cognitive development, parent-infant interaction and attachment, imitation and onset of language. Emphasis will be on normal development with some discussion of aberrant development. Lecture with discussion.

Grading and Requirements:

Exams: 3 - short answer essay; each covers 1/3 of course; 60% Paper: 20 pp.; evaluating research in area; written over course of semester; divided into three subsections: Introduction and Background, Research Review, Evaluation and Suggestions for New Research; 40%.

Prerequisites:

Psychology 301 with a grade of C or better, Psychology 304 or 333D, Psychology 418 or an equivalent statistics course with a grade of C or better, and upper division standing.
