Description:

To date, very little work has been done examining the connection between sexuality and romantic relationships.  This study will be one of the first to measure this connection over time.  Specifically, recent research has shown that sexual problems (including difficulties with orgasm, arousal, and desire) are very common, but do not always lead to subjective distress.  The question we will be attempting to answer is, when are these problems distressful?  Among other variables, we suspect that the quality of the relationship may moderate the connection between sexual problems and sexual distress, or that problems are more or less distressful depending on the quality of the relational context.  The study will make use of survey data and will require advanced statistical analyses.  This is a good opportunity for research assistants interested in sexuality and relationships.  You will learn about past research in these areas and gain experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting longitudinal data.

Qualifications:

We are looking for reliable and committed students who would like to act as a research assistant over the spring semester, continuing into summer and/or fall 2009. Preference will be given to research assistants who are able to commit to working at least two semesters. Some basic familiarity with web surveys and SPSS is preferred, but not required. Additionally, we ask that applicants have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and are interested in the research topic.

Duties:

RAs will manage paper surveys and an online data collection system.  They will be responsible for sending reminder e-mails to participants and entering data into computer storage.  They will also be involved in data analysis, literature review, and study design.  RAs may have the opportunity to gain experience in IRB proposal writing and grant applications.  Must be able to use the Internet, excel, and word processors.  Also must be comfortable dealing with sexual information.
