UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

Faculty:

Contact:
Scott Liening, sliening@mail.utexas.edu
Description:
This project will look at home people’s explicit and implicit measures of status predict their actual behavioral in a two person problem-solving group. Subjects will provide a series of both explicit and implicit personality measures, and then participate in a two-person problem-solving task. The other person will be a research assistant posing as another subject (i.e. a confederate), who will be trained to elicit status differences. This study aims to see what is predicted by the different measurement types, as well as examine the effect of different status levels on problem-solving ability.
Qualifications:
Responsible, conscientious and motivated students with an interest in the psychology, interpersonal dynamics, and dominance/status. The experimental sessions will most likely be run in the afternoon, so Research Assistants should be available to work some afternoons each week.
Duties:
Research Assistants will mainly be acting as confederates (i.e. posing as participants) to elicit status differences. RAs may also be asked to run some sessions. Administrative work, such as data entry, will also be likely.
