PSY 357 CBT and Mindfulness Treatments for Claustrophobia

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

Advising | Admission to Psychology | Course Information | Career Planning | UT Resources

Faculty:

Michael J. Telch, Ph.D.

Contact:

Jonathan Horowitz horowitz@mail.utexas.edu, 471-3722

Description:

This study will examine the relative effectiveness of several different treatment protocols for claustrophobia.  All participants will be treated via exposure, and some will receive an additional component of treatment, based on either cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, or relaxation.

Qualifications:

We are looking for applicants who are planning to apply to graduate school and who plan to gain experience with clinical research.  Because the assistant will be providing treatment for claustrophobia, and our participants are, by nature, anxious and fearful while participating, we prefer applicants with good interpersonal skills and an interest in counseling or clinical psychology.

Duties:

The assistant will be responsible for the recruitment, screening, and assessment of participants, and will guide participants through the exposure treatment sessions.
