Description:
We are interested in whether expressive writing, in which new parents write about their thoughts and feelings, can help new parents to cope with the stressors of becoming parents. We will look at a variety of aspects of first-time parenthood, including the parents’ relationship as a couple, and both the mother’s and father’s health and well-being. We will also look at whether parents’ improved coping helps with the parents’ and baby’s health.
Qualifications:
Research assistants must be willing and able to commit at least 8 hours per week to the study. The study may require research assistants’ to work evenings and weekends, depending on when subjects are available to come to the lab. Flexibility, commitment, and reliability are a required. Experience with infants is preferred.
Duties:
Research assistants will be involved in every aspect of running this study. Duties may include contacting local daycares to recruit subjects, giving participants directions in how to complete the study, and helping to care for (and play with!) infants.
