PSY 357 Children’s understanding of gender and ethnicity

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

Advising | Admission to Psychology | Course Information | Career Planning | UT Resources

Faculty:

Rebecca Bigler, Ph.D.

Contact:

Julie K. Milligan juliekmilligan@mail.utexas.edu

Description:

How do children make sense of society’s treatment of social groups such as gender and ethnicity? Do children notice when ethnicities or genders are underrepresented in certain occupations? Do children notice social segregation? How do these factors contribute to their own gender stereotyping or ethnic prejudice?

Qualifications:

We welcome all motivated students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds – and all genders!

Duties:

Plan on attending hour-long weekly meetings to stay abreast of lab happenings. Duties vary from semester to semester depending on our stage of research (data collection, participant recruitment, data analysis, etc.). Self-motivated students benefit the most in our lab, as our organization is less formal – but still as demanding – as other labs.
