PSY 357 Trauma and Pain Perception Study
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

Faculty:
Michael J. Telch, Ph.D.
Contact:
Jonathan Horowitz horowitz@mail.utexas.edu
Description:
This study examines alterations in cognition that occur during trauma. Specifically, we are investigating how psychological responses to traumatic events can affect pain perception. This research experience will be valuable for 357 students wishing to pursue graduate education in clinical or health psychology, and especially for those who wish to study trauma, PTSD, pain perception, or anxiety disorders.
Qualifications:
We are looking for RAs who are personable, detail-oriented, and dependable.
Duties:
You will be required to run a total of 25 experimental sessions over the course of the semester. Each session takes one hour, and you will schedule them using the online recruitment system. You may set your own hours and run the sessions at your convenience. The total hourly requirement is rather modest and unstructured relative to some other RA positions (about 10 hours a month, total). You will also need to devote some additional time in January (6-8 hours) for training, where you will learn to run the sessions, use the OPERA online scheduling system, and manage the data you collect.
