Description:
Emotional writing has been found to reduce health center visits, increase academic performance and subjective well being among undergraduate students. For more information on emotional writing, check out Professor James W. PennebakerÕs website.
For this project, we are interested in the effects of emotional writing among bilinguals. Specifically, does writing in oneÕs native language or second language differentially affect their physical and psychological improvement? Will the level of oneÕs acculturation moderate the effect of emotional writing?
Qualifications:
You do NOT have to be bilingual
Be able to commit 9 hours a week.
Have at least a 3.0 GPA.
Duties:
Mainly code tape-recorded lives of bilinguals and rate expressive writings.
Attend informal weekly lab meetings.
This study will provide an opportunity to be an important part of a study where you will get to appreciate bilingualsÕ lives. In our weekly lab meetings, we will discuss various topics including bilingualism, acculturation, and emotional writing.
