Faculty: James Pennebaker, Ph.D.
Contact: Kate Niederhoffer
Email: Niederhoffer@mail.utexas.edu, SEA 3.426H
Description:

What are the effects of training groups to speak in specific ways? More specifically, does speech using a given pronoun, reflective of either an individual (I) or collective (we) perspective effect group cohesiveness, efficiency at coming to decisions, or accuracy in representing their peer group? I have designed a series of studies to gather information about the specific components of language involved in group interactions and test various real-world applications.

Qualifications: We are looking for motivated, organized and responsible students who want to learn more about research in psychology- more specifically the interface between language and social psychology.

Duties:

Running subjects, helping with data entry, etc.

Other Information: Please e-mail me at Niederhoffer@mail.utexas.edu with your name, phone number, e-mail, and brief description of your interest.
