Testosterone and Stereotypes

Undergraduate Research Project

Faculty: Robert Josephs, Ph.D.
Contact: Deepa Athle
Email:
deepa@mail.utexas.edu or Phone: 471-6852
Description:

We are investigating whether the hormone testosterone (levels of which are known to have an effect on how competitive people are) has implications for stereotyping and discrimination as well. Could it be that minorities provide high testosterone indivi duals (and yes, women have testosterone too!) stereotype more as a result of being more vulnerable to a threat to their status?

Qualifications: Preferably a Psychology major with a GPA above 3.0, good communication skills, responsible and interested in helping in the alleviation of stereotyping and discrimination. For the purpose of this experiment, we need a Caucasian research assistant (purely a function of the experimental design and not racial discrimination on our part, of course!)

Duties:

Running the experimental sessions, entering data.

Other Information: If you have any interest in getting hands-on research experience (in preparation for graduate school or to explore the world of psychology) with a fun and interesting experiment, this is a great way.
