PSY 357 Body-mind relationship in the sexual arousal of child sexual abuse survivors
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

Faculty:
Cindy M. Meston, Ph.D.
Contact:
Alessandra Rellini arellini@mail.utexas.edu
Description:
This study investigates the relationship between physiological and subjective sexual arousal among women with and without a history of child sexual abuse. We hypothesize that one of the reasons why survivors of child sexual abuse report a higher incidence of sexual dysfunction may be explained by a desynchrony between the mind and the body during exposure to sexual cues. Physiological and subjective sexual arousal will be measured during a laboratory study. Potential moderators investigated in this study are cortisol levels, severity of PTSD, depression, and dissociation, body image, cognitive networks and sexual schemas.
Qualifications:
Must be available to work at least 8hrs per week after 2pm. Must be a woman, preferably junior of sophomore.
Duties:
The RAs will spend the majority of their laboratory time running participants. RAs will be trained on how to conduct brief standardized clinical interviews, run physiological session for the collection of data such as cortisol, vaginal pulse amplitude and heart rate. The RAs will also be responsible for editing physiological data, data management and data cleaning. An opportunity for conducting phone screening interviews and participants’ recruitment will be offered to the most skilled RAs.
