Contact:
Amanda Jones acjones@mail.utexas.edu
Description:
Our group is working on furthering our understanding of dog temperament and the social role dogs play in our everyday lives. We are working to develop and validate a dog temperament test. We are also studying the relationship between what people say they want in a pet dog and the dog the same person actually selects when adopting from, for example, a shelter.
Students with an interest in non-human animal personality, domestication of animals, animal welfare, or dog-human relationships are encouraged to contact Amanda Jones (acjones@mail.utexas.edu) to further discuss these interests and opportunities!
Qualifications:
Responsible, Motivated students with a strong interest in Personality and/or Social Psychology. Must be comfortable working with non-aggressive dogs. Willing to work 8-10 hours/week.
Duties:
Students must actively participate in meetings with the lab group. Individual duties will vary, but are likely to include interacting with and testing dogs, coding dog behavior, and collecting data from human subject. Students are also encouraged, but not required, to generate and discuss new ideas for research.
