Description:
Run experiments on young children's understanding of four
concepts: (1) dreams, (2) the fantasy/reality distinction, (3) magic, and (4) self deception.
Qualifications:
An interest in developmental psychology and some experience interacting with young children; good social skills as well as reliability and initiative. Be able to work 9-10 hours per week in the lab (according to your schedule) for a two semester commitment (e.g., two summer sessions or summer-fall or fall-spring). Often students will also have the opportunity to work with children in local preschools and elementary schools. If you are interested in working at schools, you must have large blocks of free time (2-3 hours) in your schedule on at least 3 days during the week.
Duties:
Interact with parents and their preschool- and elementary school-age children, schedule appointments, collect, code and enter data, help design studies, attend a lab meeting each week and (at the end of the second semester) write a short paper on the research that we are doing
