PSY 357 Effects of Emotional Writing among Bilinguals

Description:

Emotional writing has been found to reduce health center visits, increase academic performance and subjective well being among undergraduate students. For more information on emotional writing, check out Professor Jamie Pennebaker’s website.

For this project, we are interested in the effects of emotional writing among bilinguals. Specifically, does writing in one’s native language or second language differentially affect their physical and psychological improvement? Will the level of one’s acculturation moderate the effect of emotional writing?

Qualifications:

  • Two semester commitment.
  • Be able to commit 10 hours a week.
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Duties:

  • Recruit, schedule, and track participants.
  • Run participants in an experiment under supervision.
  • Data entry.
  • Attend weekly lab meetings

Other Information

This study will provide an opportunity to be an important part of a study where you will learn about physiological markers for health, including cortisol and blood pressure, in addition to psychological indices. In our weekly lab meetings, we will discuss various topics including bilingualism, acculturation, and emotional writing. Seeking friendly, responsible, and motivated individuals.
