How to Change Departmental Assigned PSY Domain Passwords

Changing your Psychology Departmental-assigned password is a two-step process, one using Windows and one using Macintosh. Both steps must be performed successfully before the change is complete. Omitting one of the steps will result in the inability to login and/or loss of access to Departmental File Shares, even if the user uses only one of the two computing platforms.
Password Policy: All password must meet the following criterion:
- 8 characters or more in length
- must contain at least 3 of the 4 types (Upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, special characters).
Procedure to change passwords:
for Windows
- Login using your departmental username & password to a Windows PC in the PSY domain.
- After login is complete, press CTRL-ALT-Delete
- A window will pop up with one of its option to “Change Password”, select it.
- A new window will popup asking for your old-password, and for you to type the new password twice. Be sure and adhere to the Password Policy rules above in order to create a high security password.
- Logoff the Windows machine.
for Macs
- Login using your departmental username & password to a Macintosh located in one of the Psychology public computer rooms (SEA 1.210, 2.315,3.248, 4.202, 5.230).
- In the upper left corner, under the Apple-menu, select “System Preferences”.
- In the System Prefs window select “Accounts”.
- ON the left side, select your own account-name from the list.
- Hit the button labeled “Change Password”
- A new window will popup asking for your old-password, and for you to type the new password twice. Be sure and adhere to the Password Policy rules above in order to create a high security password.
