Graduate Student Awards in PsychologyThree awards are given each spring to graduate students in the Department of Psychology to recognize outstanding teaching assistants, assistant instructors and the Outstanding Dissertation. The Janet T. Spence Award for Outstanding Student Teacher is named for Dr. Janet Spence who is now retired. Her distinguished research career focused on the interplay of motivational and individual differences in determining performance in both laboratory and real-life situations. Eligible students are those who served as an Assistant Instructor in the previous spring, summer or fall. A committee chooses the recipient who is awarded $500. The Alma T. Carlson Teaching Assistant award is named after Ms. Carlson who is a 1933 Graduate of The University and is a benefactor of the Department of Psychology. Faculty makes the nominations. The recipient is awarded $500. The Outstanding Dissertation Award is given each year to recognize exceptional work by a Psychology graduate who has demonstrated the highest levels of scholarship, research and writing. Faculty makes the nominations. The recipient is awarded $500. |
