PATRICK D. QUINN, BA.
GRADUATE STUDENTPatrick Quinn graduated from Swarthmore College in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in history. As an undergraduate, Patrick worked with Dr. David Metzger at the HIV Prevention Research Division of the University of Pennsylvania, assisting with research on the transmission of HIV among networks of injection drug users in the Philadelphia area. Upon graduating, Patrick continued working at the HIV Prevention Research Division. He received training in Harm Reduction and counseled study participants with the goal of reducing risk of HIV infection and transmission.
In the summer of 2006, Patrick moved to the University of Pennsylvania’s Psychology Department, where he began studying individual differences in academic and profession achievement with Dr. Angela Duckworth. With Dr. Duckworth, Patrick focused on self-regulation and well-being among adolescents and young adults.
Patrick joined the SAHARA Lab in August of 2008. He intends to explore the roles of self-regulation/impulsivity and negative affect in substance use and other risky behavior, both longitudinally and at the event level. Patrick hopes some day in the not-too-distant future to obtain a position in academia where he can both teach at the undergraduate level and continue to research relationships between individual differences and substance use.
