Bryan Hartzler joined the SAHARA lab upon entering the UT Clinical Psychology doctoral program in 1996 after having previously received a B.S. from the University of Washington. While in Austin, Bryan contributed to a number of research projects amidst completing a thesis focused on student drinking patterns during college entrance and a dissertation that utilized the ‘barlab’ to explore etiological and prognostic aspects of alcohol-induced blackouts. Bryan returned to the Pacific Northwest in 2002 to complete his internship at the Seattle VA Hospital, and formally received his degree in 2003. He remains there on an interdisciplinary addictions postdoctoral

fellowship within its VA Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education. Bryan remains active in research, currently assisting on projects evaluating provider acquisition of motivational interviewing skills as well as investigation of cognitive changes among stimulant abusers during the immediate course of addictions treatment. He looks forward to attaining his professional licensure in WA state, as well as continued involvement in a blend of scientific and clinical activities.
